Brasilia - The Federal Court yesterday (2) accepted a request from the Attorney General's Office (AGU) and ordered the unblocking of federal highways in the state of Minas Gerais that were blocked by truck drivers. The decision is related to demonstrations organized by the Autonomous Cargo Transport Union and the General Union of Workers of Minas Gerais. In case of non-compliance, the entities will have to pay a fine of R$ 100 per hour.

Truckers' protests caused road closures yesterday morning (2) on seven stretches of highways that cross the state, the most affected by the demonstrations on Monday (1st), the first day of mobilization by the category.

Truck drivers are demanding improvements in working conditions and a reduction in toll prices. They are also demanding a decrease in the price of diesel fuel. According to the most recent report from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), truck drivers have partially or completely blocked federal highways in seven states.

According to the Attorney General's Office (AGU), the highway blockades, in addition to causing disruption to the population, can harm the country's economy. Because these are federal highways where hazardous cargo, such as fuels and other highly combustible chemicals, passes daily, there is also a significant risk of accidents involving these vehicles.

The decision by the 3rd Court of the Judicial Section of Minas Gerais authorized, among other things, the intervention of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Federal Police to guarantee compliance with the injunction, observing all necessary precautions to preserve the physical integrity of those involved.

The São Paulo court also granted an injunction prohibiting the blocking of highways in the state. The decision was made by Judge Randolfo Ferraz de Campos, of the 14th Public Treasury Court, who granted the request of the State Attorney General's Office. In case of non-compliance with the injunction by the protesters, they will have to pay a fine of R$ 20 per hour.
