247 - The São Paulo State Court sentenced businessman Alexandre Bello Correa to one year in prison, under an open regime, for assaulting his ex-wife, television presenter Ana Hickmann. The sentence was announced by his lawyer, Roberto Leonessa, according to [source missing]. g1The case took place in November 2023 in the city of Itu, in the interior of São Paulo state, and led to the beginning of a contested divorce based on the Maria da Penha Law.

The decision was handed down by Judge Andrea Ribeiro Borges, of the 1st Criminal Court for Violence Against Women, and can still be challenged through an appeal to the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP). As the proceedings are under seal, the TJ-SP itself stated that it will not comment on the case. Alexandre Correa preferred not to comment directly, advising that any statements be sought from his defense.

Domestic violence and reporting - According to the police report filed by Ana Hickmann at the time, the incident occurred in the kitchen of the couple's residence. The presenter stated that she was pushed against the wall and threatened with headbutts by her then-husband. When she tried to leave the house to retrieve her cell phone, which she had left outside, she said she was surprised when the door was slammed shut, causing an injury to her left arm.

Ana managed to lock herself in the kitchen and, once she felt safe, called the Military Police. Household staff and the couple's 11-year-old son were present during the incident. The presenter sought medical attention on her own at the Santa Casa de Itu hospital, where she had to have her arm immobilized with a sling.

In response to the complaint, the court granted an emergency protective order, which was upheld in the sentencing, preventing Alexandre from approaching Ana and her family.

“I’m very afraid of him,” says Ana Hickmann - In a statement, Ana Hickmann said: “I am relieved that justice has been done. I knew it would take time, but everything happens in God’s time. More than the conviction of my aggressor, I am very satisfied with the maintenance of the protective order, which prevents him from approaching me and my family, because I am very afraid of him.”

The presenter also reported that her ex-husband's aggressive behavior was not limited to the November incident. "He always had an oppressive, misogynistic, and sexist attitude at home, and now he has made it public with attacks that haven't stopped since I had the courage to break free."

Separation and public repercussions - Ana and Alexandre were together for 25 years and are the parents of a boy. The separation was formalized legally in November 2023, shortly after the violent incident. At the time, Alexandre Correa published a statement on social media in which he acknowledged that there had been a disagreement, but downplayed the seriousness of the incident, stating that it was an "absolutely isolated situation" and "without major consequences."

In the same statement, he wrote: “I take this opportunity to offer my sincerest apologies to my entire family for what happened. We have been married for 25 years without any incident of this nature. I have always served Ana as her agent with the utmost care, affection, and respect.”

The process is following its judicial course and will still be reviewed in higher courts if the defense files an appeal.
