Jury convicts men accused of decapitating woman.
The three accused of decapitating a woman in Maceió were convicted of aggravated homicide; Jamisson Jonas was sentenced to 28 years and 7 months in prison; Willians Vicente to 35 years and Cremilda Nicolau to 34 years and 4 months; they will serve their sentences in a closed regime at the Maximum Security Prison (PSM).
Alagoas247 - Those accused of decapitating domestic worker Maria de Lourdes Farias de Melo, a crime that occurred in July 2011 in the Carminha housing complex in Benedito Bentes, were convicted of aggravated homicide.
The sentence for defendants Jamisson Jonas, Willians Vicente and Cremilda Nicolau was read by Judge Geraldo Amorim in the early hours of Tuesday (24). The jury trial began early Monday morning at the Maceió Forum.
Jamisson Jonas was sentenced to 28 years and 7 months in prison; Willians Vicente received a sentence of 35 years, and Cremilda Nicolau, 34 years and 4 months. All three defendants will serve their sentences in a closed regime at the Maximum Security Prison (PSM) in Maceió.
"The aggravating factors were vile motive, cruelty, and the victim having no chance to defend himself. They killed simply because they suspected the victim had reported the defendants to the police. Furthermore, the defendants caused suffering and acted by surprise, giving the victim no opportunity to defend himself from the attack," detailed Judge Geraldo Amorim.
In addition to the triple aggravated homicide, they were also convicted of supplying body parts and forming a criminal gang. Cremilda Nicolau was also convicted of theft, as she confessed to breaking into the victim's residence and stealing some items to sell and then buy drugs with the money.
"I'm going home relieved; justice has been done, thank God. Although the pain in my heart won't go away, just knowing that justice has been served makes me extremely satisfied," declared Adriano José dos Santos, widower of Maria de Lourdes.
