Young woman convicted of murdering friend sparks outrage by appearing in video showing off her "perfect look" at the Barretos Rodeo Festival.
At 19 years old and studying medicine, she served the sentence determined by the court, but her appearance in a VIP box reignited debates about impunity.
247 Five years after a case that shocked the country, the young woman convicted of the murder of her friend Isabele Ramos in Cuiabá (MT) has once again become a topic of discussion on social media. This time, the repercussion is due to a video in which she appears showing off her look in a VIP box at the Barretos Rodeo Festival, in the interior of São Paulo. The information was initially published by the portal Metropolis.
In the images, recorded in a relaxed tone, the participants were invited to evaluate their own looks. When questioned, the young woman replied: “I came in black, all-black. I like a little bit of sparkle. I think a nine, a 10.”The recording, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage among some internet users, who revived the hashtag. #JusticeForBebele in reference to the victim. After the criticism, the video was deleted.
The case that defined 2020
In July 2020, when she was 14 years old, the teenager was handling a firearm inside her home and fired a shot that killed Isabele Ramos, also 14 years old. The defense claimed the shooting was accidental, but expert reports pointed to inconsistencies in this version. The court found her responsible for an act analogous to homicide and sentenced her to three years of detention in a juvenile detention center—the maximum penalty for minors.
The young woman served half of her sentence before the court dismissed the case, granting her full freedom to resume her life in society. Today, at 19, she is studying medicine. She was expelled from the course in 2024, but her defense appealed and managed to have the decision reversed.
