Ceará247 - After two weeks of intense mobilizations, with plenaries and stoppages at the doors of newspaper and magazine companies in Ceará, journalists from Diário do Nordeste, O Estado and O Povo approved, this Wednesday (7) and Thursday (8), the state of strike. The decision took place in workplace assemblies convened by the Union of Professional Journalists in the State of Ceará (Sindjorce).

The category has shown willingness and unified the fight against the shameful employer proposal of only a 5% salary readjustment, for a labor demand of 9,88% (inflation on the base date of the 2015/2016 Salary Campaign).

In over six years, this is the first time that a state of strike has been approved simultaneously in all three newsrooms. In April 2013, journalists at O Povo had already implemented a strike schedule that unlocked the salary campaign of that period.

intense agenda

In all newspapers, workers approved a calendar for the movement. Already this Friday (9), there is an indication that all professionals should wear black, as a sign of mourning against the intransigence of the bosses. On the shirts, the phrase: “Journalists Demand Respect”.

As part of this agenda, journalists from O Estado carried out what they called "Operation Roadrunner" today, where workers sped up their work and finished the newspaper's edition four hours earlier.

On Tuesday (13), activities continue with the mobilization of Diário employees, at 15 pm, at Praça da Imprensa, O Estado, at 17 pm, in front of the newspaper, and O Povo, at 16 pm, on the company's sidewalk.

On Thursday (15), employees of the Diário editorial staff will strike again at 15 pm, also in the square in front of the newspaper. And the staff of O Povo, at 16 pm.

“It’s time for us to join hands and fight for our rights, to secure our interests,” said Samira de Castro, president of Sindjorce. “We are only asking for the maintenance of the purchasing power of our salaries and respect from employers,” she added.

In addition to the mobilization calendar, the journalists decided to establish a state of permanent assembly, authorizing the union to convene assemblies at any time.
