JB asks allies for understanding regarding cuts to positions and commissions.

The acting governor promises to announce measures to reduce the size of the administrative apparatus within the next ten days; according to him, only by cutting expenses will it be possible to consider salary adjustments for civil servants; "any gesture from a governor must be thought out and analyzed so as not to appear demagogic or to remove rights and benefits from civil servants. We need to make decisions that, from the point of view of saving money, are successful and will change the difficult situation the State is facing at this moment," he stated.

Valter Lima, from Sergipe 247 – Acting governor Jackson Barreto (PMDB) stated, this Thursday (17), in a conversation with the press, before the act of transferring property to the Journalists' UnionHe is still evaluating the possibilities for spending cuts in the state's administrative structure. He said he intends to reduce positions and commissions to have enough cash to at least adjust civil servants' salaries for inflation. He also asked for understanding from his political allies regarding the possible changes he will make in the government.

“We haven’t defined anything yet. We have a vision of what we can do. Any action by a governor has to be thought out, analyzed, so as not to appear demagogic or to take away the rights and benefits of public servants. We need to make decisions that, from the point of view of saving money, will be successful and will change the difficult situation the State is in at this moment. We will have a position in the next 10 days,” he stated.

He also emphasized that the state apparatus is "very cumbersome," which necessitates, first, cutting expenses, and only then considering the appreciation of public employees. "We will reduce positions and cut commissions, since there are too many commissions. I don't know why there are so many commissions," he said. When questioned about the possibility of giving raises to public employees, Jackson stressed that he can only consider this possibility once the spending cuts yield results. "We are working to create fertile ground to consider a raise, based on what is constitutionally mandated, which is inflation adjustment," he reiterated.

The governor also said that great caution is needed in the decisions that will be made, given the issue involving the political group that supports the current administration. “It’s difficult for us because we are working with a very problematic machine. I have to be very cautious. We are all part of a project; there are several parties that form a political group. I will not make any assessment taking into account any political commitment to party A, B, or C. I think everyone understands that if we don’t consider the interests of public servants and society, and if the ship sinks, we will all be held responsible. Not just the governor, but everyone. The measures we will take will be with the awareness that our colleagues will understand that it is necessary to respond to society,” he stated.
