Jarbas assures Eduardo of his support for a state project.
In a meeting filled with expectations, the two biggest political bosses and rivals in Pernambuco discussed the project, currently under consideration in the Senate, for US$500 million in financing from the World Bank (IBRD) for the state; the PMDB member pledged to vote in favor of the measure.
PE247 - After a meeting held on Tuesday morning (27), Governor Eduardo Campos (PSB) received a positive signal from Senator Jarbas Vasconcelos (PMDB) regarding the project that authorizes the Government of Pernambuco to receive US$ 500 million in financing from the World Bank (IBRD) for investments in the State. The PMDB parliamentarian agreed that he will vote in favor of the measure in the Senate.
The meeting, with an administrative objective, ends up having a much greater political symbolism. Biased adversaries, Eduardo Campos and Jarbas Vasconcelos did not share many similar moments. Throughout the socialist's first term in office, they did not meet to discuss matters related to state actions.
In 2010, Campos and Vasconcelos contested an election that was highly anticipated by both political groups, but the result was surprising and distanced the rivals. Eduardo won the election by a significant margin: 82,8% to 14%. Immediately after the election, there was much talk that the gap between the two adversaries would widen even further.
Today, the differences, which are not few, have taken a back seat, and the State can count on integrated action from two of its biggest rivals.
On the same day, Governor Eduardo Campos also received a promise of support from the other two representatives of Pernambuco in the Senate, Armando Monteiro Neto (PTB) and Humberto Costa (PT).
