Brother of man lynched and killed after unjust accusation of robbery in Guarujá speaks out: "This will not go unpunished"
An individual reportedly shouted "catch the thief," and the victim was then surrounded by the assailants.
247 - Eliaquim Vicente Guedes, brother of the man who died after being unjustly lynched on charges of stealing a motorcycle in Guarujá, on the southern coast of São Paulo, told Metrópoles that the family has been "unable to sleep" since receiving news of the tragedy.
The victim's brother states that the family longs for justice. "This won't end like this. We want justice."
Osil Vicente Guedes, 49, was lynched by four individuals last Thursday (4), in the Pae-Cará neighborhood, while driving a CG 150 borrowed from a friend. In the early hours of Sunday (7), he was diagnosed with brain death at Santo Amaro Hospital, in Guarujá.
According to witnesses, an individual shouted "catch the thief," and the victim was then surrounded by the assailants. Images captured on a cell phone show Osil being assaulted with a helmet and a piece of wood.
This is not the first time that Guarujá has been the scene of a lynching. Fabiane Maria de Jesus was killed after being lynched and beaten to death. The reason: she was mistaken for an alleged child kidnapper who practiced rituals. After the photo was published on the 'Guarujá Alerta' page, some residents of a community in the municipality assaulted the housewife. Dozens of social media users harshly criticized the page administrator, and one even said that the page was as guilty as the aggressors.
