Iris complains that Paulo is running the city hall alone.
Deputy Mayor Agenor Mariano (PMDB) says that Iris complained that Paulo Garcia stopped listening to him and is running Goiânia solely based on his own ideas; this episode is another chapter in the behind-the-scenes duel within the PT-PMDB alliance; Agenor took advantage of the vacant mayoral seat and said that Iris is a candidate in 2014; Deputy Mauro Rubem assures that Paulo Garcia or Gomide could be candidates for governor.
Goiás 247_ The relationship between Mayor Paulo Garcia (PT) and Iris Rezende (PMDB) is no longer that of father and son. At least according to Vice-Mayor Agenor Mariano (PMDB), who is acting as mayor until the 20th due to Paulo's trip.
This week's Opção newspaper article says that Paulo Garcia has stopped listening to his political mentor, Iris – a revelation made by Agenor Mariano. Coincidentally, Agenor used his interim period as mayor to say that Iris Rezende is firm and could indeed be a candidate for governor of the state in 2014.
Behind the scenes, according to Opção, rumors are circulating that Iris is irritated because Paulo Garcia no longer listens to him and prefers to run the city hall according to his own ideas. And the start of the Workers' Party member's administration hasn't encouraged Iris due to the chaos in the health sector, the city's garbage problem, and the difficulty in unblocking key projects like the Macambira-Anicuns Park.
Iris is worried because in Goiânia he almost always beats Marconi Perillo (PSDB), and thinking ahead to 2014, it wouldn't be good to be supported by a mayor with negative publicity. A Serpes poll this month showed that disapproval of Paulo Garcia's administration has increased in the capital.
This minor squabble shows that the PT-PMDB alliance was once more reliable. State Representative Mauro Rubem (PT) said that either Antônio Gomide or Paulo Garcia will be candidates for governor, disregarding any prior agreement between the parties.
Furthermore, there is still a faction within the PMDB that advocates for José Batista Júnior's affiliation so that the businessman can be the candidate for the Palácio das Esmeraldas (Governor's Palace) in place of Iris Rezende.
