Goiás 247 - The mayor of Goiânia, Iris Rezende (PMDB) stated this Tuesday (19), during the inauguration of the Mauro Borges Production System, that the construction of the complex shows "the extraordinary vision of the future of Governor Marconi Perillo", who "anticipated the supply crisis" of the Metropolitan Region. "No one was able to measure the growth of Goiânia and the Metropolitan Region, but the governor understood this a long time ago," said the mayor of Goiânia.

In his speech, Iris Rezende stated that Pedro Ludovico Teixeira chose Campinas (now a neighborhood of Goiânia) to host the state capital, over the competing cities of Silvânia, Jaraguá, Morrinhos, and Pirenópolis, because of the Meia Ponte River. According to Iris, Pedro Ludovico predicted Goiânia would reach 50 inhabitants in 50 years. "Thirty years after its founding, I took office as Mayor of Goiânia and the city already had 200 inhabitants," the mayor stated.

Iris thanked Marconi for his "perspicacity" in initiating the construction of the Mauro Borges Production System in 1999, and for anticipating the growth of Goiânia, which today has almost 1,5 million inhabitants, according to the latest IBGE census. "I want to congratulate him on this extraordinary vision of thinking about the future. No one was able to measure the growth of Goiânia and the Metropolitan Region, but the governor understood this a long time ago and has been dedicating attention to the problems of this city and this region," stated the mayor.

“I am grateful not only for the kind and respectful words, but also for your presence at this ceremony, which is of such great importance to our capital. Thank you, Mayor, for understanding that we are always together, thinking about what is best for the city. For having reached together a high level of responsibility, maturity, and balance regarding the issues that are important for the future of our capital,” said the governor.

Marconi inaugurated the third and final phase of the Mauro Borges Water Production System, which will double the water production capacity for supplying the Goiânia Metropolitan Region. Marconi delivered the Governor Mauro Borges Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), one of the most modern in Latin America, completing the works of the production complex, which also includes the Dr. Henrique Santillo Dam (João Leite Stream Dam) and the Raw Water Pumping Station. The works were carried out by Saneago. "The Mauro Borges System will guarantee clean water for future generations," said Marconi.

More than 2 people, including authorities, Saneago employees, and local residents, attended the inauguration. Marconi stated that the start of operations at the Water Treatment Plant, which marks the completion of the Mauro Borges Production System, will definitively end the occasional water supply problems in the capital. The plant begins operations with the endorsement of specialized institutions: it won first place in the Brazil Engineering Award granted by Eletrobrás/Procel/Abes for energy efficiency in sanitation.
