Those who are dissatisfied should leave, the government tells its secretaries.

In a strongly worded statement signed by the Chief of Staff of Governor Marconi Perillo, former secretary and prosecutor João Furtado, the government reaffirms the need to dismiss 25% of appointed officials and warns that it will not tolerate rebellion from aides: "All positions, without exception, are subject to free appointment and dismissal by the Governor of the State, who, out of generosity, allowed the secretaries to make nominations."

Those who are dissatisfied should leave, the government tells its secretaries.

Goiás 247_ The state government released an official statement this Wednesday afternoon addressing the cuts to appointed positions within the government. The document, signed by the Chief of Staff of the Governor's Office, João Furtado, clearly and objectively states that no appointed official is immune to the cuts.

The statement confirms that Governor Marconi Perillo's order is explicit and that any secretary who disagrees with the directives can and should resign immediately. Read the full statement:

NOTE FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATE OF GOIÁS

Regarding the decision by the Government of Goiás to reduce the impact of salaries for appointed officials on the Executive Branch's payroll, it should be noted that:

1. The decision by the Government of Goiás to reduce the payroll of civil servants with commissioned positions by 25% is a firm and technical guideline aimed at valuing permanent civil servants, such as the timely payment of salaries, the payment of the 13th salary in the month of their birthday, in addition to other actions aimed at protecting the category, such as Meritocracy (which will be a model for the Federal Government), permanent qualification courses, the Henrique Santillo School of Government, public examinations, etc.;

2.2. With these undoubtedly severe measures, the Government of Goiás is cutting its own spending to set an example of austerity – as has been the behavior of this administration – and demonstrating its determination to save the resources necessary to improve the provision of services to society. It is important to highlight that the reduction in salary expenses is just one more measure in a broad set of actions already announced with this objective;

3.3. There are no political positions in the state administration, nor what is being called a technical reserve. All positions, without exception, are freely appointed and dismissed by the State Governor, who, at his discretion, has allowed the secretaries to make nominations.

4. Aware of the need to implement such measures, including the reduction in spending on appointed officials, all of us, Secretaries of State and aides to the Government of Goiás, who are not entitled to contest orders from the head of the Executive Branch, will comply with the directives of Governor Marconi Perillo. Anyone who disagrees can and should immediately resign from their position in the Executive Branch.

Goiânia, February 20, 2013
