247- After a weekend of much speculation, in which information circulated that Mayor João Alves (DEM) will not run for reelection, councilor Jailton Santana (PSDB) said this Monday (1) during an interview with a radio station that he will not wait for the mayor's decision.

According to Jailton, João Alves has been under enormous pressure from his family. "His son asked him to give up, and some of the mayor's aides approached João Neto to say that João needs to continue," he reported.

Because of this situation, information emerged that João invited state deputy Robson Viana (PEN) to run for mayor, a fact that displeased the councilman. “He invited Robson to be a candidate for mayor with his support and Juvêncio for vice-mayor, but once again the PSDB and José Carlos Machado are ruled out. Are we going to wait for the mayor four days before the convention for him to decide our political future? No, we're not,” he stated.

On Sunday (31) it was announced that this Monday (1) the mayor would hold a press conference to inform about his situation regarding re-election, however the press conference was cancelled. The uncertainty further irritated the councilor who stated that his group may go to the group of Valadares Filho (PSB). “I will propose that in case Mayor João Alves gives up, that we go with Valadares Filho, including this Monday I will be meeting with one of the coordinators of Valadares Filho's campaign. We will be a party to only please the democrats here in Aracaju”, he declared.
