The fire that broke out at 6:20 am at the Copersucar company terminal in the Port of Santos has been brought under control, the São Paulo State Port Authority (Codesp) reported a short time ago. Firefighters are working on mopping-up operations. In total, six warehouses were destroyed.

According to Codesp, only the operation of the terminal belonging to the company that caught fire was affected, and other terminals in the port transferred the sugar cargo. Each warehouse has an area of 20 square meters and stored 80 tons of bulk sugar.

The city hall of Santos reported that four victims (all male) were rescued. Three of them are hospitalized at the Santa Casa hospital in the city, and one was treated at the emergency room in the eastern zone and subsequently released. According to the city hall, one of the victims suffered burns to his upper limbs, and there is no information about the health status of the other victims.

Twenty-one fire trucks were dispatched to the scene. According to Codesp, the fire started in Warehouse 11, where the roof collapsed, and reached rubber conveyor belts that helped spread the fire to other warehouses.

Each warehouse held 80 tons of sugar. The port's Emergency Plan was activated, and the Port Guard and a Transpetro unit are assisting firefighters in fighting the fire. Firefighters from nearby cities, such as São Vicente and Guarujá, were also called in. According to Codesp, the fire is not affecting operations at other terminals.
