The city hall of Mauá, in Greater São Paulo, reported that the fire that occurred this Thursday (11) in the bus garage of a private company did not affect the municipal public transport system. According to the Fire Department, 80 buses were destroyed by the fire. The bus garage company estimated the number of vehicles at 60. No one was injured.

According to the city hall, despite being located next to the garage that caught fire, the buses serving the city were not affected. "The entire fleet of Suzantur, the company responsible for service on municipal lines, is currently operating normally," the statement said.

The buses that burned belong to the Empresa Auto Ônibus Santo André (Eaosa) group and had been out of service since December 2014. Vehicles from Viação Ribeirão Pires, Viação São Camilo, Empresa Urbana Santo André, Viação Riacho Grande, Empresa Auto Ônibus Santo André, Viação Imigrantes, Auto Viação Triângulo, and Viação Cidade de Mauá were also affected.

Rodrigo Paixão de Souza, the garage's night security guard, said the fire started at half past midnight. He saw the beginning of the fire and tried to put it out with a hose, but couldn't because the water supply had been turned off.

The Fire Department responded to the incident around 1 a.m., at 530 Eugênio Negri Avenue. The flames were only brought under control more than three hours later. Ten fire trucks were dispatched. Civil Defense reported that the causes of the fire are still unknown.
