Fire leaves more than 500 families homeless.
According to Civil Defense, 80% of the community area on Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho, in the Campo Belo region, in the southern part of São Paulo, approximately 1 square meters, was affected by the flames; displaced people were taken to an evangelical church near the site.
Fernanda Cruz - Reporter for Agência Brasil - A fire destroyed a community on Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho, at the corner of Rua Cristóvão Pereira, in the Campo Belo region, in the southern part of São Paulo city. According to the city's Civil Defense, between 500 and 600 families were left homeless.
The Fire Department reported that the flames started at 21 pm yesterday (8) and 30 vehicles were sent to contain the fire. There are no reports of victims. The Traffic Engineering Company (CET) closed Avenida Washington Luis, in the direction of the neighborhood – an access road to Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho

The homeless were taken to an evangelical church near the site of the fire, at 50 Viaza Street. Civil Defense reported that the families are being registered to participate in social housing programs.
