Imbassahy suggests that the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) should oversee the Workers' Party's 'fundraising' campaign.
Federal Deputy Antônio Imbassahy commented on the initiative of the Bahia PT (Workers' Party) to launch a fundraising campaign to pay off campaign debts; he recalls that "the party is going through a serious crisis involved in corruption investigations" and suggests that the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) should monitor the possible fundraising by the party; "Within the scope of the Lava Jato Operation investigations, the PT is being accused of receiving between R$ 150 and R$ 200 million in bribes from Petrobras contracts," recalls the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) member, who is vice-president of the Petrobras CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in the Chamber of Deputies.
Bahia 247 - Federal deputy Antônio Imbassahy (PSDB) commented this Wednesday (25) on the initiative of the PT in Bahia to launch a fundraising campaign to pay off campaign debts. He recalls that "the party is going through a serious crisis involved in corruption investigations" and suggests that the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) should monitor the possible fundraising by the party.
"Within the scope of the Lava Jato Operation investigations, the PT (Workers' Party) is being accused of receiving between R$ 150 and R$ 200 million in bribes from Petrobras contracts," recalls the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) member, who is vice-president of the Petrobras CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in the Chamber of Deputies.
Imbassahy also says "that this crowdfunding model has already been used in the past by PT members convicted in the Mensalão scandal with funds of suspicious origin from schemes to embezzle public money," and therefore he considers it "important" to monitor the contributions requested by the PT of Bahia.
The politician also points out that, "in tough times, it's unlikely that anyone, even with good intentions, will want to donate money to the party of a government whose own national president considers it a piece of crap."
The parliamentarian refers to a meeting with around 150 PT supporters yesterday (24), in which the party's national president, Rui Falcão, dropped the gem: 'It's a shitty government, but it's my government'.
