IBGE indicates population growth in Alagoas.
According to the national population estimate for 2017 made by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Alagoas has 3.375.823 inhabitants, an increase of 0,5% compared to 2016, when the state had 3.207.032 people; Maceió, as expected, is the most populous municipality, with 1.029.129 residents; followed by Arapiraca, with 234.185; Rio Largo, with 76.019; the municipality with the smallest population is Pindoba, with 2.953.
Alagoas 247 - The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released, this Wednesday (30), the estimate of the national population for 2017. According to the agency's survey, Alagoas has 3.375.823 inhabitants, an increase of 0,5% compared to 2016, when the state had 3.207.032 people.
Maceió, as expected, is the most populous municipality, with 1.029.129 inhabitants. Next are Arapiraca, with 234.185; Rio Largo, with 76.019; Palmeira dos Índios, with 74.208; and União dos Palmares, with 66.477. The city with the smallest population is Pindoba, with 2.953.
Brazil has reached a population of 207.660.929, according to IBGE estimates. Last year, the population was just over 206 million, as also indicated by the agency. The reference date for the survey, published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Wednesday, is July 1st.
National population growth from 2016 to 2017 was 0,77%. São Paulo is the most populous state, with 45.094.866 inhabitants, followed by Minas Gerais, with 21.119.536, and Rio de Janeiro, with 16.718.956. The state with the smallest population is Roraima, which has 522.636.
