Alagoas247 - The Archbishop of Maceió, Dom Antônio Muniz, remains in recovery in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia hospital. A security guard has been placed at the door of the medical ward to preserve the priest's peace, as ordered by the hospital's management.

According to the Archdiocese's Pastoral Communication (Pascom), the arrhythmia suffered by Dom Antônio was controlled by the medical team and, at the moment, the patient is recovering in the ICU, with a forecast of returning to the room later this Monday (25).

Even while hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit, family and friends of other patients go to his bedside, speak with Dom Antônio, and ask for blessings, which could compromise the archbishop's health. For this reason, the hospital administration decided to place a security guard to control the flow of patients.

“A large number of patients come to Dom Antônio to talk, to ask for prayers, but he cannot respond or make any effort due to his state of health. It is important to consider that the security guard was placed there by decision of the hospital,” said Deacon Luiz Antônio, archdiocesan coordinator of Pascom.

This Sunday (23), Muniz was recovering in his room after coronary artery bypass surgery, when he suffered cardiac arrhythmia and was taken to the ICU. According to cardiologist José Wanderley, it is normal for some patients to present this condition in the postoperative period.
