Government of Rio Grande do Sul - The Santa Maria Regional Hospital already has 75% of the work completed. More than 300 beds will be available, and currently some sectors are already receiving finishing touches and others already have furniture. With delivery scheduled for February 2014, the head of the Executive, Tarso Genro, visited the site on the morning of this Thursday (12), during the Interiorization of the Government.

"The work is progressing well, but overall we still have a long way to go. There are issues that are already being resolved, such as municipal access, the sewage system which will be handled by Corsan, the management model which should be operated by the Federal Government, and the equipment, for which authorization has already been granted for bidding," said the governor.

Tarso Genro also emphasized that the hospital is not just a physical structure, but rather a set of institutional initiatives, human and material infrastructure necessary for its operation. "We are committed; this is the largest hospital project in Rio Grande do Sul, where our government has already invested R$ 36 million, and we will invest all the necessary resources so that this hospital will be operational by the end of our administration," he said.

According to the Deputy Secretary of Health, Elemar Sand, this is a project that the State needed. "Currently, some patients need to travel outside the State for treatment, and this hospital will be a reference point in the areas of rehabilitation, neurology, traumatology, and rheumatology, serving the population of the entire state of Rio Grande do Sul. That's why it's a regional and state hospital. Certainly, the State will be able to provide more qualified and agile care and access to the population of Rio Grande do Sul," he emphasized.

Engineer Vânia Fernandes accompanied the governor during the visit and explained how the hospital's service structure will be distributed. Construction began in March 2010.

The paving work is already underway, and the surrounding area project has already been drawn up, providing quality of life and safety for the residents of the region, which will receive a considerable number of people in a few months.
