247 - Meeting on Thursday night, Mayor Fernando Haddad, most of his secretaries, and dozens of PT (Workers' Party) deputies came out in defense of former government secretary Antonio Donato (PT). He left public administration after being mentioned in the investigation by the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) regarding the gang that embezzled ISS (municipal tax) funds from the City Hall.

In a 14-minute speech, the mayor abandoned discretion and made an emphatic defense of Donato. Haddad said that the ISS (municipal tax) scheme would not have been discovered if it weren't for the then-secretary's commitment to structuring the Comptroller General's Office.

He also criticized Luis Magalhães, another inspector accused of corruption, saying that he went on TV to show off "his luxurious apartment." "Visit Donato's 50-square-meter apartment in Campo Limpo [southern zone]."

National leaders of the Workers' Party (PT), such as the party president Rui Falcão, Jilmar Tatto, Cândido Vaccarezza, Ricardo Berzoini, and Carlos Zarattini, participated in the event at the Engineers' Union in the city center. José Américo, president of the Chamber of Deputies, called the inspector Eduardo Horle Barcellos, who said he gave Donato a monthly allowance of R$ 20 between 2011 and 2012, a "scoundrel."
