Goiás 247_ The family of Bianca Conceição dos Santos, 27, disputes the circumstances surrounding her death after a visit to the prison in the municipality of Catalão. Photos released by the family show Bianca with bruises on her face and signs of beating. According to the Goiana Agency of the Penitentiary System (Agsep), during a search procedure, Bianca (who was pregnant) swallowed a package that supposedly contained drugs. She began to feel unwell, had convulsions, and died. She was at the prison to visit her boyfriend.

The young woman's sister, Shirley Maria da Conceição, and a friend, who preferred not to be identified, told G1 Goiás that Bianca was a victim of assault. “Her ingestion of drugs doesn't cause bruises like the ones she had. Her face was badly injured, her foot was broken, her finger was broken. We can see that that wasn't all that happened. My family is desperate, my mother. I want justice. This needs to be investigated,” Shirley Maria told G1.

A friend of the victim, who was with her moments before the search and who did not want to be identified, told G1 that one officer was going to carry out the procedure. However, another officer allegedly said, "This one's for me." According to the witness, the officer grabbed the victim by the arm and took her to the room, from where she emerged already dead. Bianca was a former inmate and served time in prison for drug trafficking.

Bianca arrived at the prison around 10 am to visit her boyfriend, Warley Eric da Silva, who is imprisoned for robbery. Prison officers working that day described to Agsep that, during a routine search, the pregnant woman was asked to reveal the contents of a package she was carrying. Bianca reportedly refused to show the contents, stating that she was carrying erotic products.

While the officers were requesting backup, the pregnant woman allegedly swallowed the package. This, according to the officers, caused her to suffocate and consequently die from asphyxiation. The officers also stated that they contacted the Fire Department, which did not arrive in time.

Bianca's body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) to confirm the cause of death; the report should be released by the end of the week, according to Agsep.
