ASN - The State Government has launched a special debt negotiation program related to the Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA), a limited opportunity to settle outstanding debts under preferential conditions.
According to decree 29.947, published in the State Official Gazette, all debts incurred before January 1, 2013, can be paid in full or in installments, with discounts that can reach up to 95% of fines and 80% of late payment interest, depending on the chosen negotiation option. The program covers debts that have been established or not, registered or not in Active Debt, that have been the subject of a previous installment plan that was not completed or is still in progress.
To facilitate negotiation, the State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz) has made available a direct access link on the website www.sefaz.se.gov.br where it is possible to view the debt amount, analyze the payment conditions and join the program, including issuing the payment slip.
The special debt negotiation program related to IPVA (Vehicle Property Tax) represents a good opportunity for taxpayers notified through the Electronic Gazette, also available on the Sefaz (State Finance Secretariat) website. Notifications have been published since August of last year, and if taxpayers do not regularize their situation, they may have their CPF (Brazilian Individual Taxpayer Registry) or CNPJ (Brazilian Corporate Taxpayer Registry) restricted due to registration in the State Active Debt Registry, Serasa (a credit bureau), and also in the State Cadin (a state debt registry).
Tax on gifts and inheritances
The State Finance Department (Sefaz) also has a debt negotiation program related to the Inheritance and Gift Tax (ITCMD). This program offers payment options including cash or installments of up to 60 months, with discounts of up to 95% on fines and 80% on interest, provided the event that generated the debt occurred before December 31, 2012. Debt negotiation can also be done on the website www.sefaz.se.gov.br.
Both debt negotiation programs share similar characteristics and offer taxpayers an opportunity to settle their debts with reduced charges and avoid legal action for collection.
