Government mobilizes firefighters and Civil Defense on alert about tremor.
Following the earthquake felt in Teresina, Governor Wellington Dias convened a meeting with the Fire Department, Civil Defense, the Environment Secretariat (Semar), and other relevant agencies to gather information and develop an action plan for the population. “The objective is, first and foremost, to guarantee the safety of the population and to identify the causes of this tremor as quickly as possible. We have already contacted the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management, which is linked to the National Civil Defense Secretariat, to gather more information. At this moment, the most important thing is that we have already taken some emergency measures; some buildings in the city have been evacuated, and there are no reports of injuries or victims,” explains Wellington Dias.

As a result of the earthquake felt in Teresina on Tuesday morning (03), Governor Wellington Dias called a meeting with the Fire Department, Civil Defense, Environment Secretariat (Semar) and other competent bodies, to gather information and develop an action plan with the population.
“The goal is, first and foremost, to ensure the safety of the population and to identify the causes of this tremor as quickly as possible. We have already contacted the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management, which is linked to the National Secretariat of Civil Defense, to gather more information. At this moment, the most important thing is that we have already taken some emergency measures, some buildings in the city have been evacuated, and there are no reports of injuries or victims,” explains Wellington Dias.
Despite this being an atypical situation compared to usual occurrences, the Fire Department assures that maximum safety measures have already been taken. “Initially, we evacuated public buildings, in partnership with the community itself, as a precautionary measure to ensure maximum safety. The Fire Department set up two operational posts, one at the Karnak Palace and another at the Administrative Center, so that we can implement the necessary measures as quickly as possible,” explains the General Commander of the Military Fire Department of Piauí, Colonel Carlos Frederico.
According to the director of Civil Defense, Vitorino Tavares, it is recommended that owners of private buildings request an inspection by Civil Defense technicians. "The main recommendation is that public buildings remain empty and that private owners seek a professional to analyze the physical structure of their building, as well as request a visit from Civil Defense technicians," he points out.
