Government launches State Policy for Water Supply and Sanitation.

Ceara 247 - Governor Camilo Santana launches this Friday (10) the public consultation of the draft of the State Policy for Water Supply and Sanitation of Ceará. The launch will open the seminar "Basic Sanitation - scenarios and challenges for universalization", in the auditorium of the Public Ministry of the State of Ceará, in Fortaleza, at 9 am.

The seminar aims to discuss the challenges to universal access to sanitation in the state and to broaden the dialogue between the State Public Prosecutor's Office and state sanitation companies. The event is organized by the Brazilian Association of Members of the Public Prosecutor's Office for the Environment (Abrampa), the Secretariat of Cities of Ceará, the Water and Sewage Company of Ceará (Cagece), the Association of State Basic Sanitation Companies (Aesbe), the Brazilian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (Abes), the Regulatory Agency for Delegated Public Services of the State of Ceará (Arce), and the Trata Brasil Institute.

 The President of Cagece, Neurisângelo Freitas, will present the relevant aspects of sanitation service provision and the difficulties faced by the sector. The event will also include presentations by the presidents of Abrampa, Trata Brasil, Abes, and Aesbe, as well as the Director of Articulation of the Ministry of Cities. Among the topics to be addressed are the role of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Municipal Basic Sanitation Plans, and private sector participation in sector investments.

 According to the Secretary of Cities, Ivo Gomes, the State already participates in a Technical Cooperation Agreement with nine other entities aimed at structuring basic sanitation policies in Ceará, focusing on the universalization of sewage services, with the Cariri Metropolitan Region (RMC) as a pilot area. Furthermore, according to the head of the department, the agreement aims to draft a bill to establish the State Basic Sanitation Policy and to encourage the development of plans by municipalities in Ceará.
