Construction of the vocational school in the city of Umbaúba, in the far south of the state, is well advanced; this is one of the units focused on technical courses that the Government of Sergipe is currently building; the school will offer 504 places focused on the textile production chain, prioritizing access also for young people from municipalities in the southern and south-central regions; two other vocational education centers are also under construction in the municipalities of Nossa Senhora do Socorro and Nossa Senhora das Dores.
Sergipe 247 - Progress is visible on the construction of the vocational school in the city of Umbaúba, in the far south of the state, 105 km from the capital. This is one of the units focused on technical courses that the Government of Sergipe is currently building. The school will offer 504 places focused on the textile production chain, prioritizing access also for young people from municipalities in the southern and south-central regions. In addition to Umbaúba, the state government is investing in vocational units in Nossa Senhora das Dores, Nossa Senhora do Socorro, and has already completed schools in Itabaiana, Carmópolis, Boquim, and Propriá.
“We are approximately 70% complete with the project, already in the finishing phase, including roofing, metal structure, electrical installation, and painting. This is the final stage, and the expected completion date is November of this year,” informed engineer Paulo Agra, from the Camel company responsible for the services. The State Government is investing R$ 10.106.889,58 through the State Secretariat of Infrastructure and Urban Development (Seinfra), with execution by the State Housing and Public Works Company (Cehop).
But the biggest investment is in the future of young people from Sergipe. That's what the Secretary of State for Education, Jorge Carvalho, believes. "Vocational education will train and integrate young high school graduates into the job market," he says.
The goal is to meet the market demand for skilled labor. For this reason, each center was planned taking into account the economic strengths of its respective region.
Having a profession is the desire of any young person, and this new opportunity, very close to home, is the chance that was missing, according to 24-year-old student Reniana Conceição. She is hopeful about the prospect of the opening of the Vocational College and believes that many young people will be able to benefit.
“I was happy to learn that they are building a technical school. I hope it will bring improvements because the young people in our city need this today. I hope that public administrations have this commitment to our city, that this school will bring benefits to our young people, especially in this region that really needs to focus on this. The young people here in our city are unfortunately getting lost, and if there is this serious commitment from those who govern, it would be very good indeed. I hope I have the opportunity to enroll, finish my studies, and specialize in something,” he reported.
Evocational education
Two other vocational education centers are also under construction in the municipalities of Nossa Senhora do Socorro and Nossa Senhora das Dores, in addition to the one already completed and awaiting inauguration in Jardim, also in Socorro, which is focused on the health sector. All of them follow a standard model for vocational schools developed by the National Fund for Educational Development of the Ministry of Education (FNDE/MEC). The state government's objective is to build a vocational school in each of the eight territories of Sergipe.
