Bahia 247 The government of Bahia will reduce investments planned in the 2014 Annual Budget Law (LOA) by approximately 8,66%. Sectors such as education, health, tourism, culture, infrastructure, social development, and the environment will have less funding next year.
According to an article in the newspaper A Tarde this Friday (27), only seven of the 25 government secretariats were free from resource reduction. The budget was described as "lean and realistic" by the state finance secretary, Manoel Vitório.
The official explained that the budget did not include resources that are still being negotiated or credit operations that have not yet been implemented. "We need to work with what we have. Later, it's possible to discuss supplementary funding once credit is obtained."
The opposition in the Legislative Assembly claims that the reduction in investments is an attempt by the government to cover the R$ 2 billion "hole" in the state's finances. The budget has not yet had a rapporteur appointed and is only expected to be submitted to a vote in January 2014.
