Minas Agency - Sixty-one municipalities in Minas Gerais will now be able to start urban infrastructure works. Through an agreement signed this Tuesday (3), at Palácio Tiradentes, in Belo Horizonte, Vice-Governor Alberto Pinto Coelho authorized the release of more than R$ 27 million for municipalities in various regions of the State.

The resources are part of ProMunicípio, a program launched this year by Governor Antonio Anastasia, with the objective of fostering municipal development through investments in road infrastructure, machinery and road equipment, vehicles, and health and education initiatives, in which more than R$ 2,1 billion is being invested this year alone.

The funds released this Tuesday will enable asphalt paving works, graveling of rural roads, construction of drainage networks and urban infrastructure. So far, 130 municipalities have been served, with a total investment of R$ 54,5 million.

The vice-governor emphasized that the interventions were chosen by the municipalities themselves, which will be responsible for the works. "This is the distinguishing feature of ProMunicípio; the public administrator of each municipality, certainly listening to the citizens, defines their priorities. In this moment of great challenges for states and municipalities, a program of this magnitude and with this integrated vision is fundamental to accelerating the development of our cities and our people," highlighted Alberto Pinto Coelho.

Of the total amount allocated to the ProMunicípio program, approximately R$ 420 million is being earmarked for infrastructure – construction (around R$ 260 million) and equipment (R$ 160 million). To participate in the program's activities related to this area, intended for municipalities with a population of up to 100 inhabitants (824 municipalities), the municipality must adhere to the program. Disbursements range from R$ 350 to R$ 1,5 million, depending on the population size. Within this range, the municipality can choose to receive equipment or a vehicle (donated by the State), or enter into an agreement to carry out construction work. It is also possible to choose both.

Partnerships
The Government of Minas Gerais has undertaken several initiatives in constant partnership with municipalities. The intention is to guarantee investments in all regions of the state to improve infrastructure and the quality of life for the people of Minas Gerais.

"The ProMunicípio program complements other public policies aimed at serving municipalities, as one would expect. This year and next year alone, the State will invest approximately R$ 9 billion," concluded Vice-Governor Alberto Pinto Coelho.
