Governor announces increased security in the Metropolitan Region.
The municipalities of Caucaia and Maracanaú will receive permanent headquarters for the Battalion of Patrols and Intensive and Ostensive Actions (BPRaio) next September. Governor Camilo Santana (PT) made the announcement this Tuesday in a live chat on Facebook. Camilo also informed that Fortaleza will also receive a new unit, in addition to 30 other cities with more than 50 inhabitants.
Ceará 247 - The municipalities of Caucaia and Maracanaú will receive permanent headquarters for the Battalion of Policing Rounds and Intensive and Ostensive Actions (BPRaio) next September. The announcement was made this Tuesday (22) by the governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana (PT), from Brasília, during a live broadcast on his Facebook page. The two municipalities will be the first in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza (RMF) to receive the security equipment. Another 30 cities with more than 50 inhabitants will also receive the equipment by next year.
Furthermore, Camilo Santana stated that Fortaleza will also receive a new BPRaio unit, intensifying security actions in the capital. “Nine fixed, regionalized battalions have already been delivered, with teams of up to 35 men. The Raio's action has been so efficient and positive that we made the decision to implement the system in all municipalities with more than 50 inhabitants, in addition to doubling it in Fortaleza,” he said. “The graduation of the first class of Military Police officers in August will allow me to implement the new battalions in the municipalities of Ceará in September.”
The Caucaia Special Police Battalion will have 113 officers, 44 motorcycles, and two patrol cars. In Maracanaú, there will be 56 officers, 24 motorcycles, and two patrol cars. The Special Police Battalion is already present in the municipalities of Juazeiro do Norte (Cariri), Sobral (Northern Region), Itapipoca (Western Coast), Iguatu (South-Central), Crateús (Crateús Sertão), Tauá (Inhamuns Sertão), Quixadá (Central Sertão), Russas (Jaguaribe Valley), and Canindé (Canindé Sertão).

The Chief Executive made the broadcast from Brasília, where he is on a mission to secure funding for the Ceará Water Belt (CAC) project – an undertaking that will receive water from the São Francisco River Transposition in Cariri, and consequently supply Fortaleza and the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza, as well as the Jaguaribe Valley region. “I spoke with the Minister (Helder Barbalho, of National Integration) about why the (Federal) Government cut part of the budget for this project. But the Minister, the group of federal deputies, and I will make every effort to ensure that there is no interruption in the transfer of funds for the CAC, this project so important for Ceará,” he guaranteed.
According to the Chief Executive, the Brazilian Army's "Carro Pipa" operation and the guarantee of new water pipelines by the National Water Agency (ANA) were also topics discussed at the meeting. "We even talked about the pipelines for Madalena and Boa Viagem, which have already been authorized. We are securing the funds so that we can begin construction," he stated.
