Tocantins 247 - The Senate candidate for the "The Change We See" coalition, Eduardo Gomes, presented his proposals aimed at senior citizens during his electoral program this Friday, the 12th. Gomes was involved in the creation of the University of Maturity (UMA) at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) and has been working on the project ever since, with amendments and actions.
"UMA is the only university in the world where people come to learn and also teach." The institution, created in 2006, has already served more than two thousand students. For eighteen months, the students take classes in elder rights, computer science, home economics, entrepreneurship, and dance. In addition, they participate in social integration outings, serving as a national example of coexistence, social recovery, and self-esteem.
In a statement for the electoral program, former UMA student Maria de Fátima Nunes stated that the project is very important for human aging and said that she achieved her dream: "My dream was to wear a graduation gown and I did it. I felt like the princess of the year."
Proposals
Throughout his campaign, Gomes presented proposals to improve the quality of life for senior citizens in Tocantins. He wants to bring the University of Maturity to the state's main cities and hire graduates of the project to help with government social programs. Gomes intends to create the University of Entrepreneurship, in partnership with UFT, and offer exclusive Pro-Divino credit lines so that seniors can become entrepreneurs.
Another proposal from the Senate candidate directly impacts the lives of all Tocantins residents: Eduardo Gomes will work to approve the bill, which is already in Congress, proposing to eliminate taxes on all medications. If the bill is approved, all medications will have a 35% price reduction.
