Goiás247 - In 2013, Goiás stood out among the states that generated the most formal jobs in the country. There were 88.950 new jobs with registered employment contracts (adjusted for declarations submitted by companies after the deadline) from January to October 2013, representing an increase of 7,73% compared to the same period of the previous year, and higher than the national increase of 3,7%.

The data comes from the General Registry of Employed and Unemployed Workers of the Ministry of Labor and Employment (Caged/MTE) and was analyzed by the Mauro Borges Institute of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (IMB) of Segplan. The highlights in Goiás were the manufacturing industry with 23.959 new jobs created; commerce, with 10.592; services, with 28.066; and construction, with 13.416 new jobs.

This result led Goiás to achieve first place in relative terms (which establishes growth compared to the same period in the previous year) and seventh place in absolute terms (the balance of all new jobs that emerged in 2013) in the generation of formal employment, among the 27 states of the Federation, as can be seen in the graph on the side (click to expand).

Agriculture

According to analyses by IMB, agriculture has always driven job growth in Goiás. Even with numbers that fluctuate due to the end of harvests and the cultivation of temporary crops, in 2013 agriculture generated more than 11 new jobs, representing a 13,2% increase in new employment.

“Traditionally, Goiás has always had a very strong agricultural sector. This sector was greatly strengthened since the end of the 1990s with the installation of food processing industries in the state, which further boosted the sector and made Goiás stand out as one of the largest grain producers today,” explains economist and manager of Socioeconomic Studies at IMB, Marcos Fernando Arriel.

According to the economist, from January to October 2013, the municipalities in Goiás that stood out the most in the creation of new jobs in the agricultural sector were Cristalina, Formosa, Maurilândia, Morrinhos, Rio Verde, Rubiataba, and Santa Helena, with their respective plantings and cultivation of soybeans, production of certified seeds, and cultivation of sugarcane.

October 2013

Among the municipalities in Goiás with more than 30 inhabitants, in October 2013, the best performances in generating new formal jobs, in absolute terms, were: Goiânia (798), Formosa (784), Aparecida de Goiânia (430) and Morrinhos (323).
