Goiás 247 - Data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) for the months of April to June showed a decrease in the number of unemployed in Goiás. In the second quarter of the year, the state registered an unemployment rate of 11%, a drop of 1,7 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2017. This result places Goiás with the eighth lowest rate among Brazilian states. Santa Catarina is in first place with 7,5% unemployment; Pernambuco has the highest, at 18,8%. The number of unemployed in Brazil represents 13% of the population aged 14 or older.

The data comes from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and was compiled by the Management of Socioeconomic and Special Studies (IMB) of the Secretariat of Management and Planning (Segplan). The numbers show the strength of the Goiás economy even in times of crisis, as a result of the continuity of private investments, the industrialization of agricultural production, fiscal adjustment, and the allocation of resources to infrastructure projects by the Marconi Perillo government.

According to the manager of IMB/Segplan, Rui Rocha Gomes, Goiás has seen an improvement in the composite rate of underutilization of the workforce (unemployed + underemployed due to insufficient hours + potential workforce over the workforce). In the first quarter, underutilization was at 19,2%, dropping to 18% currently, a decrease of 1,2 percentage points.
