'Globo wants to incite hatred against the government and the PT'
Deputy Valmir Assunção, from the PT party, criticized the "coup-mongering of Globo and the right wing in Brazil" and assessed the editorial line of 'Fantástico' as biased, which was the first to give a connotation of "mega demonstration," to what has become known as the "Gourmet Balcony Revolt"; "I do not deny that we are going through a very complex economic situation. But one thing is to protest within the framework of democracy and another is to promote coup-mongering, something that Globo and other media outlets are doing shamelessly. Therefore, I hope that we can address this political crisis that exists in the National Congress and that we can help Brazil and not tarnish history with yet another coup d'état."
Bahia 247 - In a speech on the floor of the Chamber of Deputies, Valmir Assunção, a member of the Workers' Party (PT), criticized the "coup-mongering of Globo and the right wing in Brazil" and assessed President Dilma Rousseff's speech on Sunday the 8th, in honor of Brazilian women and to address the country's situation. According to Valmir, the president's speech "directly affected right-wing politicians and conservative sectors, leading people in some areas, generally upper-middle-class neighborhoods, to bang pots and pans."
"Some even discredited Dilma in an extremely sexist way, which cannot be taken seriously as a political opinion. But the way Globo organizations and many of the major commercial media outlets covered it was interesting," said the PT congressman.
He highlighted the editorial line of 'Fantástico', which was the first to give a connotation of "mega demonstration" to what became known as the "Gourmet Balcony Revolt".
"The Brazilian elite is not tolerating the social transformations carried out during the 12 years of PT government. Having lost influence and power over the working class, they are trying to incite a coup and even a military intervention. I don't deny that we are going through a very complex economic situation. But protesting within the framework of democracy is one thing, and promoting a coup is another, something that Globo and other media outlets are doing shamelessly. Therefore, I hope that we can address this political crisis in the National Congress and that we can help Brazil and not tarnish history with yet another coup d'état," says the congressman.
Valmir Assunção questioned Fantástico for not showing the people fighting for higher salaries, especially teachers, and for not showing the daily struggle of the people, which, according to him, is the reality of the country.
"We are experiencing a struggle between the right-wing parties that oppose the president and a struggle between the largest party on the Brazilian right, which is the media, especially Globo. In a way, they want to instill hatred against the government and the PT (Workers' Party). At the same time, they want a third round of elections. This will only happen if they change the Constitution, because the current one doesn't allow it."
