Geddel to 247: "I'm not worried about intrigues"

In an interview with Bahia 247, the Vice President of Corporate Banking at Caixa said he has "no idea where these intrigues come from" that he is causing discomfort in the PT-PMDB relationship and, furthermore, the former minister says he is not "worried" about the "risk" of losing his job; "That's not part of my concerns. My biggest concern is the direction Bahia is taking, which, in my view, is misguided"; the state governor is Jaques Wagner, from the PT.

Geddel to 247: "I'm not worried about intrigues"

Despite denying being the cause of yet another episode of unease between the PMDB and PT parties, the Vice President of Corporate Banking at Caixa Econômica, Geddel Vieira Lima, affirms that he is not afraid that President Dilma Rousseff will remove him from his position, a possibility that was raised over the weekend after the PMDB convention where the head of state and Vice President Michel Temer sealed their repeat of the 2014 alliance. Geddel reportedly said that the speech was "insufficient."

"My friend, all this is nothing but intrigue and gossip. And honestly, I'm not even worried about these things, I have no idea where these things come from. People keep talking about reforms at Caixa Econômica Federal. That's fine, because if there are any changes, the PMDB will be participating in the discussions," Geddel said in a recent telephone interview with Bahia 247.

When asked if there was a risk of leaving CEF, the PMDB leader from Bahia responded in his usual style: "That's not one of my concerns. My biggest concern is the direction Bahia is taking, which, in my view, is misguided."

However, in the Planalto Palace, the expected 'fall' of the Bahia native from the command of the Vice-Presidency of Corporate Banking at Caixa Econômica Federal is gaining momentum. President Dilma is reportedly preparing a 'splitting' of the department, creating a micro-enterprise sector to accommodate the PSD, which recently joined the government's base.

Another thing Geddel doesn't hide is his preparation to run for governor of Bahia again next year. In 2010, in his first interview minutes after the final count that showed Jaques Wagner (PT) re-elected in the first round, the former minister confidently stated that he would be a candidate again in 2014.

And since then, he and his brother, the deputy leader of the PMDB in the Chamber of Deputies, Lúcio Vieira Lima, have been the most active voices in the opposition to the Wagner government. One of the biggest proofs that the PMDB is a fierce opposition to the PT in Bahia was given last October, when they helped (a lot) to elect ACM Neto, from the DEM party, as mayor of Salvador against the candidate of Dilma, Lula and Wagner, also a deputy, Nelson Pelegrino.
