Toxic gas leaks in Annex 3 of the Chamber of Deputies.
The building was evacuated this morning; a team specializing in hazardous materials inspected the site but was unable to identify which toxic gas leaked.
Agency Brazil - The Federal District Fire Department evacuated the entire Annex 3 of the Chamber of Deputies this Thursday morning due to a leak of an as-yet-unidentified toxic gas. A staff member felt unwell after inhaling the gas, which leaked near the Medical Department. She was treated by firefighters and is doing well.
According to Lieutenant Juliana Leal, a team specializing in hazardous materials inspected the site but was unable to identify the type of toxic gas that leaked. Firefighters in special protective clothing returned to the evacuated building to conduct a new inspection and try to determine the type of gas. Five fire department vehicles were dispatched to the scene.
According to the director of the Chamber's Logistics Support Coordination, Raimundo José de Carvalho, this is the second time a toxic gas leak has occurred in the building. The first occurred in 2007, and it was not possible to identify the gas.
Approximately one thousand Chamber employees work in Annex 3, which houses the offices of representatives, the Medical Department, and consulting rooms.
