The PSB-PPS merger is expected to alter the political landscape in Goiás.

The merger process between the two parties has been agreed upon by the executives, and the new party will retain the name PSB; in Goiás, the party is moving towards being dominated by federal deputy Marcos Abrão Roriz, who leads the PPS, and Senator Lúcia Vânia, who is leaving the PSDB to join the PSB; the current PSB of Vanderlan Cardoso has no elected parliamentarians in the state, and the businessman tends to lose political capital with the merger; Marcos Abrão affirms that the new PSB is naturally emerging from the base of Marconi Perillo, which is where Vanderlan is trying to establish himself after being a rival of the governor in recent years.

Goiás 247 - The merger of PSB and PPS will alter the political landscape in Goiás, and the repercussions are likely to directly impact the 2016 elections, especially in the capital, where the range of candidates and possibilities increases every month. The new party will retain the name PSB and will have the fourth largest bloc in the Federal Chamber, with 45 deputies (34 from PSB and 11 from PPS), behind PMDB, PT, and PSDB.

Federal deputy Marcos Abrão Roriz is the president of the PPS in Goiás, and according to the initial resolutions, the leadership of the new party would go to whoever has the greatest representation in the National Congress. Thus, Marcos Abrão would gain strength, since the PSB of businessman Vanderlan Cardoso does not have any elected representatives in the state.

The PPS is part of Governor Marconi Perillo's base, and Vanderlan has signaled his intention to get closer to the state government; he recently met with Marconi. The new PSB would naturally emerge from the governing alliance and would gain the support of Senator Lúcia Vânia, who is leaving the PSDB and is preparing to join the PSB.

“These conversations are already happening, both in their party and in ours. This rapprochement with the governor is already underway. So I don't see any difficulty in carrying out this merger in Goiás as well. He (Vanderlan Cardoso) will certainly be part of this base,” Abrão Roriz told Rádio Vinha FM.

The federal deputy also states that the goal of the party to be created is to launch mayoral candidates in as many cities in Goiás as possible. It's no secret that Vanderlan is eyeing the Goiânia mayoralty and is courting the support of Marconi's allied base, even though the PSDB guarantees it will have its own candidate.

The union could still create a structure that would encourage Lúcia Vânia to run for governor in 2018. Officially, the senator assures that she will fight for re-election, but behind the scenes there are those who claim that the parliamentarian would be keen to try for the Palácio das Esmeraldas (Governor's Palace).
