Goiás 247 - State Representative Francisco Oliveira (PSDB), leader of the government in the Legislative Assembly, stated today that Public Prosecutor Demóstenes Torres (PTB) was persecuted when his Senate mandate was revoked and has the right to run again for a seat in the Senate.
Demosthenes had his mandate revoked in 2012 due to his involvement with the illegal gambling operator Carlinhos Cachoeira.
However, he proved his innocence in nine successive trials and will be able to run in this year's elections after his political rights were restored by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Dias Toffoli.
According to Francisco Oliveira, Demóstenes not only has the right to run for office, but he was also persecuted when his mandate was revoked.
"There isn't a single line that says Demóstenes participated in anything. He was persecuted because he was the dissenting voice in Brasília. No one was more thoroughly investigated than Demóstenes Torres."
