Photography takes center stage in Tiradentes.

Football and Brazilian landscapes mark the 3rd edition of the Tiradentes Photography Festival; for five days, the event promotes, in the historic city of Minas Gerais, diverse exhibitions and activities whose themes revolve around Brazilian culture.

Minas Agency Between March 6th and 10th, photography takes center stage in Tiradentes. For the third consecutive year, the historic city in Minas Gerais hosts the Photography Festival, which promotes the exchange of experiences between amateurs and professionals from around the world.

This year, the diversity of art will be in focus with lectures, thematic exhibitions, and workshops, presenting to the public the contrasts present in Brazilian geography and culture, as well as varied perceptions of other Latin American countries. In the spirit of the Confederations Cup, the festival will exhibit images related to football selected during the online call for entries for "Foto em Pauta na Rua" (Photo in Focus on the Street).

During the five-day event, those passing through the city's historic center will be able to participate in various activities related to the theme. "The program ranges from contemplation to qualification. People will be able to participate in the activities, most of which are free of charge, and will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge about the directions of photography," explains the event's general director and professor at PUC Minas, Eugênio Sávio.

Bringing together a team of renowned professionals led by the English photographer Maureen Bisilliat, the festival will portray the richness and diversity of Brazilian photography. "The goal is to promote the relevance and beauty of this art for society. Therefore, we have developed a program that is 90% free, capable of pleasing everyone," emphasizes Eugênio, who was recently elected president of the Brazilian Photography Cultural Producers Network and has made the internet one of the means of selecting materials for the festival.

The professional says he was surprised by the quality of the work he received. "There are many talented people out there who are still unknown. During the call for entries for the 'Foto em Pauta na Rua' exhibition, for example, we received more than 300 images from different parts of the country and the world. It was difficult to narrow it down to the 40 selected photographers," he points out. The project, with its collaborative content, is one of the festival's main attractions this year.

The mobility and quality of photographic equipment, combined with people's need to share their moments, have transformed photography into a contemporary form of expression. The art form is advancing towards innovation and the technological world, and in doing so, is gaining new enthusiasts in the country.

"The world has changed, and so has the role of photography. That's why we've brought together varied and interactive projects that place the citizen at the center of the construction of this art," says Eugênio Sávio. Among the special exhibitions developed with public support is Foto Escambo, in which visitors place an image of their own creation on a kind of clothesline and take another one home.

The Tiradentes Photography Festival is made possible through Federal and State Laws for Cultural Incentives and is sponsored by Oi, Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM), and Cemig. The event is supported by Fecomércio MG and Sesc/Senac.
