PE247 – In line with the national mobilizations that will take place next Thursday (11), in the act for the National Day of Struggles with Strikes and Stoppages, most of the 55 thousand workers at the Port of Suape, linked to Força Sindical, should also paralyze their activities. In addition to the port in Pernambuco, the terminals in Paranaguá (PR) and Santos (SP) should also be the focus of similar protests. The trade union centers have as their main demands the end of the social security factor and the reduction of the working day to 40 hours per week. According to the trade union center, the works linked to the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) should also have their activities suspended. The director of Trade Union Relations of Força Sindical in Pernambuco, Ricardo Marques, said that although there is still no definition of how the mobilization will be carried out, Suape is included in the trade union agenda. He also demanded more dialogue from President Dilma Rousseff (PT) with the working class.
“Before, the Dilma government was really trying to show good intentions. To that end, we tried to get closer, to dialogue, but the government didn't take us seriously, didn't give the workers the attention they deserve from the government,” he stated. In addition to demanding open dialogue, Marques was also emphatic in stating that President Dilma's government is “a government that is being negligent towards the labor unions,” he declared.
The nationwide mobilization is being led by the four major labor unions – Força Sindical, Central dos Trabalhadores do Brasil (CTB), União Geral de Trabalhadores (UGT), Nova Central Sindical de Trabalhadores (NCST), and Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT). In addition to ending the social security factor and reducing working hours, the workers are demanding higher pensions, increased investment in health, education, and public transportation, agrarian reform, an end to oil auctions, and the end of Bill 4.330/2004, which promotes the outsourcing of labor.
