Fontana: The people want it, the law allows it, and Brazil needs Lula.
"The Federal Constitution guarantees the right of any Brazilian citizen to be a candidate. Therefore, today is the day to officially register Lula's candidacy with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) in Brasília. The people want it, the law allows it, and Brazil needs it!", stated federal deputy Henrique Fontana (PT-RS).
Rio Grande do Sul 247 - Federal deputy Henrique Fontana (PT-RS) expressed solidarity with former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whose candidacy for the Planalto Palace will be registered with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) this Wednesday (15).
"The Federal Constitution guarantees the right of any Brazilian citizen to be a candidate. Therefore, today is the day to officially register Lula's candidacy with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) in Brasília. The people want it, the law allows it, and Brazil needs it!", the congressman said on Twitter.
The former president was convicted without evidence in the Guarujá (SP) triplex apartment case. According to the prosecution, Lula would receive a renovated apartment from the construction company OAS. However, when presenting the indictment in September 2016, prosecutor Henrique Pozzobon admitted that there was no "conclusive proof" that the PT member was the owner of the property.
Even while imprisoned, Lula remains in first place in all electoral polls. A new survey by the Paraná Pesquisas Institute, conducted between August 09th and 13th, 2018, showed a stagnant electoral scenario, unchanged since the survey of July 31st.
The former president leads with 30,8% (29% on July 31), followed by Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), with 22% (21,8% previously), and former senator Marina Silva (Rede), with 8,1% (9,2%).
The PSDB presidential candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, appears in fourth position, with 6,6% (6,2%), and former minister Ciro Gomes (PDT) in fifth, with 5,9% (6%). Right behind him is Álvaro Dias (Podemos) with 4% (4,2%).
2.002 voters aged 16 or older were interviewed in 26 states and the Federal District and in 168 Brazilian municipalities, with 20,0% of the interviews being audited simultaneously. The survey has a 95,0% confidence level with an estimated margin of error of approximately 0.0 percentage points, plus or minus.
