The Public Security Secretariat of Bahia (SSP) and the City Hall of Salvador installed 147 cameras to monitor the six days of Carnival this year. In total, 125 devices are spread across the Dodô (Barra-Ondina) and Osmar (Campo Grande) circuits, and another 22 in the Historic Center (Pelourinho).

In the Dodô and Osmar circuits, 70 of them were placed solely for the festivities. Nearly R$ 3 million was invested in implementing the security system two years ago.

"We invested in building a fiber optic ring in the circuit. With that, we were able to install the number of cameras we need," said the Secretary of Public Security, Maurício Barbosa, in an interview with Correio.

For strategic reasons, he did not specify the exact location of the equipment. It is estimated that the lenses will capture nearly 2 million people.

To monitor the images, approximately 20 people work in each shift at a center in Ondina. From there, a joint operation is carried out with the Military Police, Transalvador (Salvador's traffic authority), and Limpurb (Salvador's urban cleaning company).
