Fire destroys more than 800 hectares of protected areas in 1 month.

Mines 247 - Data from the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad) indicates that the destruction caused by fires in environmental preservation areas in the state has already reached 842 hectares in August alone, which corresponds to more than 800 football fields. Among the areas affected by the fire are the Serra do Rola-Moça, in the metropolitan region, Serra do Intendente, in Conceição do Mato Dentro, in the Central region of Minas Gerais, and the Pandeiros Environmental Protection Area, in Januária, in northern Minas Gerais. 

There are 190 occurrences registered in the period, which has been marked by dry days and high temperatures. This Thursday (31), Belo Horizonte registered the hottest day of the winter, with thermometers hitting 32,7ºC. It hasn't rained for 81 days in Greater BH.

The relative humidity is also well below average in the capital. Last Wednesday, the indicator reached 12%, but the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 60%.
