Ceará 247 - After being stalled for more than four years, the renovation and expansion works at Pinto Martins International Airport have finally resumed.

Fraport Brasil, a subsidiary of Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide, the airport's concessionaire, after resolving the legal issues that prevented the resumption of work, held a ceremony yesterday (19), with the presence of Mayor Roberto Cláudio and Governor Camilo Santana and the president of Fraport in Brazil, Andrea Pal, for the laying of the foundation stone that marked the beginning of the works.

The project, valued at R$ 800 million, includes the expansion of the passenger terminal, improvements to the road system and taxiways, and expansion of the landing and takeoff area. The new facility is expected to be inaugurated in May 2020.

“With this hub and the expanded and well-managed airport, we are confident that we will quadruple the number of tourists who currently pass through Fortaleza and, consequently, we will generate more jobs and income in various sectors, starting with the construction sector, during the execution of the project,” highlighted Mayor Roberto Cláudio.

“The expectation is that by the end of the year, Fortaleza will go from eight to 50 international flights per week. This is one of the paths to the city's economic growth. It's an integration effort that took place in the interest of Fortaleza and Ceará, for a new era of tourism in the capital,” emphasized Governor Camilo Santana.

On its website, Fraport also informs that since last Monday, the 18th, infrastructure readjustment works have already begun in the underground area (external area of the airport) and warns that there will be changes in traffic flow and potential for traffic congestion until the end of July.
