Arnon de Mello Neto is the new vice president of the League in Latin America; in this role he will oversee the development and expansion of NBA business and initiatives throughout Latin America and the Caribbean; he is the son of former president Fernando Collor and Lilibeth Monteiro de Carvalho; Arnon is considered one of the most talented and experienced executives in sports; he joined the NBA four years ago and was responsible for opening the office in Rio de Janeiro and forging partnerships with GloboSat and the National Basketball League (LNB).
247 - The NBA announced on Monday the appointment of Arnon de Mello Neto as the League's new vice president for Latin America. Formerly a VP and executive director of the Brazilian office, Arnon will oversee the development and expansion of NBA business and initiatives throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. He will focus efforts on marketing partnerships, events, television deals, digital media, and merchandise licensing.
"Arnon is one of the most talented and experienced executives in sports, and I'm sure the NBA's business will continue to grow throughout Latin America and the Caribbean under his leadership," said Mark Tatum, NBA Deputy Commissioner.
Holding a degree in economics from the University of Chicago, a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University, and an MBA from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Arnon de Mello Neto joined the NBA four years ago and was responsible for opening the office in Rio de Janeiro and forging partnerships with GloboSat and the National Basketball League (LNB).
The new vice-president was instrumental in securing the three editions of the NBA Global Games (preseason games) in Rio de Janeiro. In 2013, it was the Wizards against the Bulls, and the following year, the Cavaliers against the Heat. In 2015, Flamengo became the first Brazilian club to host an NBA franchise, the Orlando Magic, in Brazil.
