Soninha, with a tainted record, has her candidacy rejected.

The Regional Electoral Court (TRE) of São Paulo rejected the candidacy for federal deputy of Soninha Francine, from the PPS party. She was found to be ineligible under the Clean Slate Law, as requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office. "The pro-PSDB media gave no prominence" to the news, notes columnist Altamiro Borges on the Carta Maior website.

Soninha Francine became ineligible due to corruption charges.
The press's silence is fully justified. After all, Soninha Francine is a media figure who still enjoys a certain prestige among young voters.

The pro-PSDB media did not give any prominence to a curious piece of news this week. On Wednesday (27), the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) of São Paulo rejected the candidacy for federal deputy of Soninha Francine, from PPS. She was disqualified under the Clean Record Law, as requested by the Public Ministry.

In 2011, while holding the unusual position of technical director of the Superintendency of Handicraft Work in Communities (Sutaco), appointed by Governor Geraldo Alckmin, the former city councilwoman had the agency's accounting rejected by the State Court of Auditors (TCE) for irregular use of public funds. The newly ineligible member of the PPS party will only be eligible to run for office again in 2020.

The press's silence is fully justified. After all, Soninha Francine is a media figure who still enjoys a certain prestige among young voters.

A former MTV presenter, she was elected city councilwoman for the Workers' Party (PT) in São Paulo with bold proposals. Subsequently, she left the party and became a strident right-winger. She joined the PPS and became a spokesperson for the PSDB, maintaining close ties with former governor José Serra.

She always tried to portray herself as a "muse of ethics," and with this image, she played the role of the PT's tormentor. Now, however, she is branded a "corrupt politician"—and for this reason, she is sidelined by the pro-PSDB media, which is doing everything to guarantee Geraldo Alckmin's reelection in São Paulo.
