Bahia 247 - An action on a plot of land located at João Carlos Sacramento, 372, in Boca Rio, on Wednesday (29), caught the attention of residents and city officials involved in the dengue control campaign due to the large amount of accumulated garbage.

At the site, painter Ronaldo Fernandes, 60, was storing recyclable materials that were being used as breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti and Albopictus mosquitoes, which transmit dengue fever, Zika virus, and chikungunya fever.

In recent months, in the house next to the property alone, seven people from the same family were reported with suspected Zika virus. Other neighbors of the painter were also infected with dengue fever.

During the operation, approximately 32 tons of unusable materials were removed from the site. In addition, disease control agents from the Zoonosis Control Center identified and eliminated mosquito breeding sites.

Since they were resumed by the City Hall last Friday (24), the joint efforts against Aedes have already collected more than 150 tons of garbage and debris, as well as visited approximately 2 properties in the capital.
