Tocantins 247 - Low-income families living in seven city blocks in Palmas received 150 property titles for their land from the state government. According to the Tocantins News Agency, more than 1.500 titles have been delivered in the state since 2011.

According to the president of TerraPalmas, Gláucio Barbosa, after obtaining the title, the new landowners can gain even more benefits. “With these titles in hand, they can seek financial institutions to obtain financing and improve their homes,” he stated. The properties included in the following blocks: T-22, Jardim Taquari; ACSVNO 61; Arnos 33, 43, 61, 72; and Arses 122 and 132. According to the head of the agency, the selection of families was based on parameters that directly involved the residents of the properties.

Most of the beneficiaries are elderly, like retiree Isabel Carvalho da Silva, who highlighted the realization of a dream with the title that gives her ownership of the land where she lives. “It’s a very good feeling, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I have six children and I’ll be able to get a loan,” she planned.

For Maria Luiza Pereira da Silva, being able to say that the land she lives on is hers was a great achievement for someone who had lived in rented accommodation for over 14 years. “It was the greatest achievement of my life. It’s the best thing to be able to own your own home; it gives you more security. For me, it was a relief,” she celebrated. Similarly, Mrs. Maria Alves da Silva highlighted that the title to the land in the 1.304 South (Arse 132) was the result of a long struggle. “I am very happy. I’ve been chasing this for a long time, coming here, and now the land is in my name. It’s a victory,” she emphasized.

According to ATN, in the first quarter of 2014 alone, 900 plots of land will be regularized in the capital. In addition to the 150 titles already delivered, another 200 are being inspected, 150 are in the social assessment phase, 350 are under analysis by the State Attorney General's Office, and another 50 are being analyzed by the legal department of TerraPalmas.
