Valter Lima, from Sergipe 247 – The week of Governor Marcelo Déda's (PT) birthday, who turned 53 on Monday (11), ends with very positive news for him – and why not say for all Sergipe residents: tests carried out by the medical board that accompanies him in the treatment against stomach cancer detected a 50% reduction in the tumor.

This is a very positive development, considering the fight Déda has been waging since October, when he discovered the illness. Determined, the governor has demonstrated a great willingness to overcome cancer. Although he stepped away from state administration at the beginning of treatment, Déda chose to return to work and, even while undergoing harsh chemotherapy sessions, remained at the helm of the administration and was the protagonist in resuming discussions surrounding the approval of Proinveste.

“Déda is happy, the doctor celebrated the result, but even with the reduction of the tumor, the treatment will continue on the same basis,” a source close to the governor informed Sergipe 247. According to journalist Diógenes Brayner of Correio de Sergipe, upon learning the good news, Déda called former president Lula and President Dilma Rousseff to pass on the information.

Officially, the Government will not issue a statement regarding the situation. All of the governor's treatment is being paid for with his own funds – there are no expenses for the State. He has been frequently traveling to São Paulo for treatment at the Sírio Libanês Hospital. Marcelo Déda's determination in battling cancer is exemplary, as stated in an article by journalist Joedson Telles of Universo Político.

On Twitter, late Friday morning (15), the governor posted a biblical text ("The Lord has done great things for me. Holy is his name!") and then thanked those who are rooting for his full recovery. "The fight continues! Your generous prayer, your positive thoughts and your solidarity fill me with strength, faith and hope. We will win!", he said.
