Former mayor Flaubert Filho and former secretary of Viçosa, Maxwell Carnaúba, were released this weekend after Judge Celyrio Adamastor accepted the habeas corpus petition filed by their defense lawyers; the former mayor is accused of administrative misconduct for alleged irregularities in the granting of non-existent per diem allowances, an episode known as the "Per Diem Expense Scandal".
GazetaWeb - Former mayor Flaubert Filho and former secretary of Viçosa, Maxwell Carnaúba, were released on the afternoon of last Saturday (23), after judge Celyrio Adamastor accepted the habeas corpus request filed by the defense lawyers.
They had been arrested on the 20th in an operation by the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), of the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE), in compliance with warrants issued by the 17th Criminal Court of the Capital.
The former managers are being monitored with electronic ankle bracelets and must comply with a series of restrictive measures.
Flaubert Torres Filho was located and arrested in the city of Atalaia, while the former Secretary of Finance was detained in Viçosa.
The former mayor is accused of administrative misconduct for alleged irregularities in the granting of per diem allowances, an episode known as the "Per Diem Expenses Scandal," which consisted of granting per diem allowances for trips that never took place.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the money received was never returned to the public coffers.
