The United States Embassy in Brazil announced a donation of an additional US$6 million to help Brazil mitigate the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The total donated by the US to date is US$12 million (approximately R$66 million).
The new resource was made available by the International Disaster Assistance (IDA) of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and is intended for use in emergency activities related to health, water, sanitation, and hygiene. The priority is aid to populations in the Amazon region, the embassy reported.
The embassy's announcement was made yesterday (29), the same day that the US began to prohibit the entry of travelers who have been in Brazil in the 14 days prior to the trip. The decree that provides for the measure was signed on May 24 by US President Donald Trump.
