State reports drop in number of homicides.
With the lowest number of homicides for the month since 2011, Goiás registered a 14,7% decrease in such occurrences in August compared to the same month last year; the numbers were impacted by a 7,1% reduction in Goiânia, a 6,3% reduction in the Goiânia Metropolitan Region, a 38,4% reduction in the area surrounding the Federal District, and a 68,7% reduction in Anápolis; according to data from the Security Observatory Management, 197 homicides were registered in Goiás in August 2014, compared to 231 occurrences in the same month of 2013. In relation to July, when 211 homicides occurred in the state, the decrease was 6,6%.

The data comes from the Criminal Analysis Section of the Public Security Observatory Management of the State of Goiás.
According to data from the Security Observatory Management, 197 homicides were recorded in Goiás in August 2014, compared to 231 occurrences in the same month of 2013. In relation to July, when 211 homicides occurred in the state, the decrease was 6,6%.
The drop in the absolute number was also reflected in the rate per 100 inhabitants, which fell by 15,8% in August. This rate is the internationally used methodology for analyzing violence and crime. The trend has been observed since November 2013, with the exception of June, when there was a peak in deaths.
In Goiânia, the 52 homicides that occurred in August represented a 7% decrease compared to the 56 registered in the same month last year. Compared to July (which had 53 cases), the number remained stable.
In the metropolitan region of the capital, the number of homicides in August was 99 – in 2013, in the same month, there were 104. In the area surrounding the Federal District, a region made up of 19 municipalities, there were 40 homicides, compared to 65 in August of last year.
Anápolis, the third most populous city in the state with over 360 inhabitants, saw a significant drop in the number of homicides in August, with 5 cases recorded. Compared to the same month in 2013, which had 16 deaths, the decrease is 68,7%. Among the largest municipalities in Goiás, only Aparecida de Goiânia saw an increase in August, with 32 cases (four more than the 28 homicides in August 2013).
